How this service is delivered

Mechanical design is provided by engineering sub-consultants, selected, coordinated and supervised by KALKATIC, and sealed by the responsible professional under their own permit to practise.

Investigation is a different matter. Where a mechanical failure sits inside a KALKATIC forensic assignment, the assessment is carried out by our own engineers. The sub-consultant is brought in once the file moves from finding the cause to designing the fix.

Why clients bring us in

  • One contract and one project lead across the mechanical scope and the disciplines it has to coordinate with.
  • Sub-consultants selected for the building type in front of us, rather than whoever happens to be free.
  • Energy and moisture implications reviewed against our own building science work rather than left to sit in a separate report.

Coordinated scope

Mechanical Engineering

The scope below is what we coordinate on your behalf. Most files use a subset, so we scope to the question in front of us.

01

Mechanical system design

Feasibility study through construction documents.

02

HVAC systems

VRF, hydronic and geothermal heating, ventilation and cooling.

03

Plumbing systems

Domestic water, sanitary and storm drainage, medical gas and laboratory waste.

04

Sprinkler & fire protection

Code-compliant suppression and specialty systems.

05

Construction review & QC

Site monitoring and verification that the design is executed.

When to call

Typical triggers.

  • A mechanical failure caused a loss and the cause is contested, which is investigation work we carry ourselves
  • A system has never performed the way it was specified
  • A new build or major renovation needs mechanical design coordinated with the rest of the team
  • A retrofit has to tie into infrastructure nobody has drawings for
