What failed, why it failed, and what it takes to put it right.
KALKATIC is an engineering firm built around forensic structural investigation, building science and restoration design. Where a file also needs architectural, mechanical, electrical or geotechnical work, we select, coordinate and supervise registered sub-consultants — under one contract, with one project lead.
Who we work for
Insurers and adjusters, legal counsel, property managers, condominium boards, developers, contractors and building owners — anyone who needs a defensible technical opinion on a building that is damaged, deteriorating, disputed, or about to be built.
- Insurance & claims
- Legal & litigation
- Property management
- Condominium boards
- Developers
- General contractors
- Municipalities
Expertise
Three disciplines in-house.
Four coordinated
under one contract.
Forensic engineering, building science and structural engineering are performed by our own engineers — the three disciplines on our nameplate.
Architectural, mechanical, electrical and geotechnical work is delivered by registered sub-consultants that we select, coordinate and supervise, each sealed by the responsible professional. The client holds one contract, deals with one project lead, and receives one coordinated opinion rather than three partial ones.

Reports that hold up
when they are challenged.
Our forensic work is scoped for the people who have to act on it: adjusters managing reserves, counsel preparing for examination, and owners deciding whether to repair or replace. Scope, limitations and methodology are stated plainly. Opinions are separated from observations.
- Cause-and-origin investigation for fire, water, wind and impact losses
- Scope-of-damage and scope-of-repair opinions, with cost-relevant detail
- Pre-existing condition, wear-and-tear and workmanship determinations
- Expert reports and testimony for litigation and arbitration
Method
How a file runs.
A consistent sequence, whether the file is a single-family water loss or a multi-building envelope failure.
Assignment & scoping
We confirm the question to be answered, the constraints, and what a useful deliverable looks like — before anyone gets in a truck.
Site investigation
Visual review, measurement, photographic documentation, moisture and thermographic diagnostics, material sampling and invasive openings where warranted.
Analysis & testing
Structural calculation, hygrothermal or energy modelling, laboratory testing and code review — sized to the question, not to the invoice.
Reporting
Observations, analysis and opinion, clearly separated. Limitations stated. Sealed by the responsible professional.
Repair design & oversight
Where remediation is required, the same team produces the drawings and specifications and reviews the work in the field.
Selected work
Recent projects.
Margret Edgson Manor
Envelope and structural investigation of a multi-unit residential building, followed by restoration design.

Coverage
Licensed where
the work is.
