Accepting new claim assignments · Edmonton, Alberta(780) 863-4864 · info@kalkatic.ca

Why here

  • Investigation and design in the same role, so you follow a file from the failure to the fix.
  • Direct client contact from early on, including adjusters, counsel and owners.
  • Forensic, building science and structural engineers in the same office, and sub-consultant relationships that bring the rest of a project into reach.
  • Support for continuing competence, P.Eng. progression and inter-provincial licensure.

Open roles

Both roles are open now. We read every application that arrives, and you will hear back from a person rather than a system.

Senior Forensic Structural EngineerEdmonton, AB · Full-time · P.Eng. required

The role. You lead forensic assignments end to end: attend site, direct the investigation, form the opinion, write the report and seal it. Where remediation follows, you carry the repair design and review it in the field. You deal directly with adjusters, counsel, property managers and owners, and you stand behind your findings at examination when a file goes to litigation.

What you will work on. Fire, water, wind and impact losses. Foundation movement and settlement. Envelope and facade failures. Parking garage deterioration. Construction defect disputes. Single-family dwellings through multi-residential portfolios, commercial, institutional and industrial buildings.

What we are looking for.

  • P.Eng. in Alberta, or eligible for registration with APEGA
  • Meaningful experience in forensic investigation, structural assessment or restoration design
  • Able to write an opinion that separates observation from inference and survives cross-examination
  • Comfortable on damaged structures and in occupied buildings, with sound judgement about safety
  • Willing to travel within Alberta and occasionally further for site attendance
  • Valid driver’s licence

Structural Forensic Engineer, Investigations & RestorationEdmonton, AB · Full-time · P.Eng. or E.I.T. with relevant experience

The role. You investigate building failures and defects, and design the repairs that follow. Early on you work alongside a senior engineer on site and on reporting; as you build a record you carry your own files. The work is a genuine mix of field investigation, analysis and design rather than one of the three.

What you will work on. Condition assessments, damage investigation following insured losses, envelope and structural repair design, and construction-phase review. Enough variety that no two weeks look the same.

What we are looking for.

  • P.Eng. registered in Alberta, or E.I.T. progressing toward registration
  • Structural design capability in concrete, steel and wood
  • Curiosity about why things fail, and the patience to document what you find properly
  • Clear written English; the report is the deliverable
  • Valid driver’s licence

General applicationEdmonton, AB · All disciplines

We keep qualified applications on file across forensic engineering, building science and structural engineering, and we would rather hear from a good engineer early than advertise a vacancy later and hope.

If you are an E.I.T. looking for a first role with real site exposure, or a senior engineer weighing a move, send us something. We read everything that arrives.
